Test driving a brand new 2019 Toyota CH-R

August 31, 2018 2 Comments

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to test drive a

brand new 2019 Toyota CH-R.

Thanks to my sponsor Toyota for providing me the car for an entire week!

This post is part of the Toyota and  A girls guide to cars sponsored program. I received compensation as participation in this program. This post reflects my personal opinion about my experience with the Toyota C-HR.

I will be breaking down my experience into 4 categories:

Important features

Convenient features

Cool features

Overall Experience

Important features:

Lane/steering Assistance- This was so helpful because it aides in eliminating distractions. When you are going out of your lane the wheel will get rigid and alert you which is so great to prevent accidents. I did actually try this, safely I might add, and it was a feature I wish I had in my own car now.

Brake Assistance- This feature is activated when you get to close to another vehicle and is also a perfect addition to prevent distracted driving.

Blind Spot on Mirrors- My current car doesn’t have this and I never realized how helpful it would be.

Back up Camera– I am absolutely awful at parallel parking and I can never gauge how close I am to the car behind me. Well this camera eliminates the guessing and makes it so easy.

Convenient Features:

Door opens with keys near car- You no longer and have to get your keys from that huge purse of yours, as long as its in your purse you can open the door. As a young female that has heard of several stories of something bad happening when girls are searching for their keys, this is perfect! It really does take the stress away from finding your keys.

Push to Start- This is also super helpful in that you don’t have to find your keys, the keys just have to be in the car to start the car.

Dual Zone Climate Control- How many arguments have you had over the car being too cold/hot? Well this car ends those arguments because the passenger and driver can adjust as necessary. I’m literally always hot and need my AC blasting but my husband doesn’t always feel the same so this was so nice to have.

Heated Seats- When it actually gets cold her in LA, heated seats are my favorite on an early morning drive.

Split Seats for large storage in trunk- I didn’t actually store anything huge in the trunk but some groceries. However I did see you were able to split the seat which I thought was nice.

Mirrors automatically fold– In order to avoid cars or people damaging your mirrors when you park, you are supposed to fold them in but I forget to do that. As soon as you lock your car it does this automatically which is great!

Cool Features:

Dashboard Display-  The display is pretty large and it is touch screen! It is so easy to navigate and like the location of it  because it’s perfect when following a map.

Apple Car play- When you connect your phone the dashboard display mirrors what is on your phone. I raved about this in my insta stories, and my live session because this was so cool to me. The screen displayed my entire spotify account and how it looks on my phone which is awesome! I am also really bad at directions and so I constantly have to look down at my phone to see the maps but with this car I could see it right on the dashboard. The ability to respond to messages and hear any incoming text message so you are not tempted to look at your phone was also a great feature.

Mirrors Light up– When I first realized the the Toyota C-HR symbol illuminates from the mirrors I instantly thought of batman. I’ve never really seen a car have this and it helps at night when walking to your car to shine some light.

Overall Experience:

Overall I had a great experience with this car and felt like I was able to get a real feel for it in the week that I had it. The drive was always really smooth and the breaks were not harsh as new breaks always are. I am also not a huge fan of driving a huge SUV and the Toyota C-HR was a medium sized car. It didn’t feel overpowering and I still felt safe where I didn’t feel like it was too small. The interior was also really nice and had a classy touch.

Fuel Economy: 29 MPG city/hwy

27 city MPG

31 highway MPG

You would save $500 in fuel costs over 5 years compared to the average new vehicle.

I am going to be getting a new car soon. I’m looking at this one, the Fiat 500X Pop, and the Nissan Kicks. This one looks super dope!
