The way your makeup looks has a lot to do with your routine before you put any makeup on.
I’ll have to admit that I didn’t always have this same routine as I do today. I’ve tried so many different things over the past couple of years and I feel like I FINALLY found what works for me!
For reference: My skin has always been super oily growing up and most of these products help reduce turning into a grease ball!
Please note: I have inserted links to the products mentioned and will receive compensation if you choose to buy items using the link provided.
Step #1: Toner
Before I put on any makeup I take some toner on a cotton pad and rub it all over my face. I do this just to make sure I have a super clean canvas before I start. You can use any toner you would like, I usually use Target Brand Toner.
Step #2:Facial Spray
I recently fell in love with the Mario Badescu Facial Spray. This facial spray is infused with aloe, herbs, and rose water. It makes my skin feel so refreshed and I spray that amazing stuff all over my face. My husband actually also loves this spray and uses it all the time! He fell in love with it when I took it with us on vacation and its perfect when your skin is feeling dehydrated.

Step #3: Moisturizer
Now I’ve tried several different ones and the Clinique one is by far my favorite. Other ones I’ve tried have led me to become oily or make my makeup separate. A little bit really goes a long way. I like to put it on while my face is still moist from the hydrating spray too.

Step #4: Oil Control Mattifier
I use this Murad Mattifier all over my face and this really helps keep me matte all day. This mattifier has SPF as well so its an extra bonus. For this step I do wait for my face to fully dry from the spray & moisturizer.

Step #5: Primer
There is honestly so many primers out there, both expensive and cheap. Over the past several years I have tried so many: benefit porefessional, smashbox photofinish, YSL, BECCA, Sephora brand primer, and so many other ones. I decided to try the NYX pore filler one day because I had spent way too much on one trip already but I needed a primer. So I decided to go with a drugstore option and I’m so happy I did. It works so well and I promise it will not disappoint.

I spot some faves. Mario Badescu Facial Spray is everything. I use it everyday! The NYX PORE Filler is a good one too. Try the Nyx no filter primer. It fills in your pores also, it is more creamier, yet not heavy. Has a little tint to it which is what’s going to fill in pores and fine lines. Try it you’ll love it.
